Betting has the most convenient cover of any form of gambling: it looks less like a game than like analysis. That is why people admit the problem later here than with anything else.
This is the sentence we hear most often on this subject. The person really does read the statistics, check the line-ups and know which players are injured — and takes that as proof that they do not belong among the addicted. In reality the analysis does exactly one job: it makes the denial look convincing.
The test is simple. If it is analysis, the bet follows the calculation even on the days when there is no wish to place one. If the urge to bet is always there and the calculation is assembled around it, that is not analysis — it is the same compulsive thinking as in any other addiction.
The second test is the reaction to a loss. An analyst draws conclusions from a forecast that failed. A person with an addiction places the next bet, larger, to win it back — usually on a match they know nothing about.
At first nothing shows: the amounts are small, the mood is good, and there are even wins, which everyone hears about. Then the shape of daily life changes — every evening goes to live broadcasts, and night matches appear from distant leagues that nobody in the house had ever cared about.
After that, money starts arriving from somewhere and debts from nowhere: a bonus at work, a friend who paid back a loan, a sum suddenly needed for something unspecified. This is the most common point at which the family finally calls us.
The course is the same as for any other gambling addiction: cognitive therapy against the thinking that the next bet will put everything right, behavioural therapy so that another way of responding to the urge appears, and work with feelings, because a bet almost always covers some specific emptiness.
We take the illusion of control separately. This is the hardest part: the person has believed for years that they can predict outcomes, and that belief cannot be removed by argument — it only comes apart against the facts of their own betting history.
We teach families not to enter into debates about odds and predictions: that conversation cannot be won, because the conversation itself is part of the illness.
These reviews are not written by us: they sit on our Google profile, where the owner cannot delete an inconvenient one.
I, Andrey, am now a former drug addict. My entire family struggled with this disease for a long time, but it kept coming back, and I started using again. I completed a rehabilitation course at the ISTOK Center. The center offered classes on specialized rehabilitation methods for addicts. The management and staff were positive and responsive, and everything contributed to my treatment and recovery. The center has a home-like atmosphere. Everything is thought out and calculated so that the addict can truly reflect on their problem and make the right choice, quitting alcohol and drugs. I recommend the ISTOK Center to anyone facing addiction and wanting to change their life for the better by making the right choice. Thank you again for your hard and necessary work and for instilling faith in people.
My name is Sergey, I live in Kharkiv, and I'm 39 years old. Alcohol abuse has been a long-standing problem for me. Recently, I've also become addicted to drugs. I couldn't quit on my own, not the first time, not even the hundredth time. Unfortunately, changing my life for the better was beyond my power. Based on reviews and advice from a friend who had already gone through a similar journey, I learned about the Istok rehabilitation center. The Istok rehabilitation center has restored me to a normal, active, social, and positive life! It has excellent conditions, knowledgeable staff, and the most professional and qualified addiction specialists and psychologists. Here I learned that alcohol addiction is a terrible disease, but by following certain rules, you can live a full life and never return to this addiction. With the help of this center, I returned to my family and work. Thank you so much for my life!

Finally, I decided to seek help, and I received genuine, professional, high-quality help, with care and support at the Istok Rehabilitation Center. This center is a godsend for alcohol and drug addicts. Excellent living conditions, qualified staff, and psychologists specializing in addiction. I was told that addiction is incurable, but it's possible to live happily with it; you just need to adopt new principles. Thanks to this center, I overcame all my problems. This is the center you should trust...
The consultation is free and anonymous. It is usually the family who call first rather than the person with the addiction — that is normal, and most recovery stories begin exactly there.
